10 Year Club!

It takes a very special person to work in child care for many years.  With our 30+ years of history, we have had the pleasure of having some of the best care providers in the Yukon  Below are the caregivers who have given 10 years or more in service.  Each one of them could have easily chosen to work in another daycare. We are proud of them all!

Sheila - Former Director

Sheila was hired as our Daycare Director when the daycare was just a few months old.  What began with a handful of children and one room in the building developed into a great daycare centre in just a few short years.

Sheila gave 20 years as our director.  She was always dedicated to the children first and foremost.  She was the first one to arrive and the last one to leave.  She did what was needed in order to make the centre a better place for all the kids, regardless of who they were.

After serving as Director for 20 years, Sheila retired and relocated out of the Yukon. Her impact in Yukon childcare continues even in her absence.

Sheila Brown passed away on October, 7, 2012.  To read more about her or leave a comment, please click here.

David

Pastor Clayton with David
If ever there was a "veteran" care provider in the Yukon, it would be David.  While David had only worked in our daycare for 4 years, we wanted to recognize his 22 years of child care service in Whitehorse.

David was one of the first graduates of the Early childhood Development program at the college.  He was the type of caregiver who was gentle, yet firm; and the kids knew he loved them all.

With all of his experience and his excellent way with children, we were privileged to have him work in our daycare for the last four years of his child care career (even if he is a Detroit Red Wings fan).

Gaynor

Gaynor ranked right up there in our 10 or more years club, having worked in our daycare for 12 years.   During her 12 years she has covered just about every single age group (several times) and has taken on every role possible.  Eventually her responsibilities shifted over to cooking for the children, but even then, she would still work with the kids from time to time.

Gaynor's philosophy while in the kitchen was to never allow a child to grow hungry. She was the single most reason why our hot meals served to the children were viewed with high favor among any who came through our doors. Her pleasant attitude among the parents, children and staff and her many years of excellent service made her the perfect fit among everyone.

June

June started at the Nazarene Daycare in 1986 and gave 15 years of service.  Her English wasn't the best but she knew how to communicate with the children and they all loved her dearly.  She was a great example of a caregiver who worked well with others.  After 15 years of service she decided it was time to retire.

Joanne

Joanne worked mostly with our preschool group during her 10 years at the Church of the Nazarene Daycare  She was a very consistent and gifted caregiver who would be here first thing in the morning on a regular basis.

Jan

Jan worked in the Nazarene Daycare for 10 years, including several years as a supervisor.  As with many long time employees, she worked in many different areas, but her specialty was working with infants and toddlers.  She added many personal finishing touches to the toddler area, making it very bright, beautiful and comfortable home-like setting.
